Subject: Invitation to Tender for the Construction of Gabion Structures under the KOBCIYE Project in Ceel-dahir, Bari, Region
1. Introduction
SEDO (Social and Environmental Development Organization) is a non-profit, non-political, and nonpartisan organization established in 2010. Founded by Somali intellectuals committed to environmental conservation and community service, SEDO operates across Somalia, with a primary focus on Puntland. The organization aims to enhance social progress by addressing social challenges, promoting peace, and fostering collaboration among government institutions, the private sector, and civil society. SEDO’s efforts also include environmental conservation and livelihood improvement, particularly in response to issues like flooding, drought, and overfishing.
2. Project Overview
The Multilateral Fund KOBCIYE project is designed with a focus on food systems in Somalia, aiming to improve food security and nutrition for smallholder low-income farms in the Puntland, by strengthening their resilience to environmental shocks. The project specifically targets smallholder farmers in the Bari Region, with objectives to enhance production capacity, improve household consumption of nutritious foods, increase commercialization, and diversify livelihoods for better income security.

In response to community consultations and lessons learned from the Kobciye project 1, funded by WFP, SEDO is inviting qualified companies to construct gabion structures in Ceeldaahir. The goal is to protect farms from flooding and soil erosion during the rainy season, benefiting the local farmer cooperatives by preventing gully formation and promoting sustainable agriculture.
Project Overview: This project will pilot the construction of gabion structures in Ceeldaahir to control erosion, safeguard crops, and increase resilience to flooding. Additionally, local farmer cooperatives will receive hands-on training to construct and maintain these structures, enabling long-term sustainability.
Scope of Work:
- Construction of gabion structures to prevent gully formation and reduce flooding on pilot farms in Ceeldaahir.
- Training the local farmer cooperatives on gabion construction techniques and maintenance.
- Ensuring compliance with technical standards for effective flood and erosion control.
Eligibility Criteria: SEDO invites experienced and qualified companies specializing in gabion construction to submit their proposals. The company must:
- Have proven experience in similar agricultural or environmental projects.
- Be capable of training local communities in construction techniques.
- Comply with relevant local and international construction and environmental standards.
- Have a valid registration from the relevant authorities.
Application Process: Interested companies are requested to collect the Technical Document from the SEDO office in Bosaso, Somalia. The document contains detailed project requirements, technical specifications, and submission guidelines.
