SEDO thus works with the community in the identification of the social problems and design of intervention.

SEDO was, and still is, a part of the efforts to reduce and prevent piracy and entrench provision of alternativelivelihood opportunities targeting young people in Puntland. SEDO intends to increase the visibility of, and confidencein, government by improving government service delivery. it is working with local leaders and groups to createcollaborative partnerships between government institutions, the private sector, and civil society, and increase access to information needed to promote peace, recovery, and development for Somalia.

The organization seeks to address impediments and bottlenecks to social progress through alleviation of targeted human depravity acts on the resources which have contributed more to natural threat of floods, drought, and erosion agents; as well as, the foreign fishing fleets degrading its essential aquatic environment. It works with the local authority in addressing environmental conservation mechanisms specifically on the issue of fishing practices most of which have openly interfered with the fish resources off the cost of Bossaso.

The organization is headquartered in Bossaso and has the ability to operate in the entire Somalia. Its current programs are concentrated in Puntland.

SEDO was founded in 2010 by a group of Somali intellectuals that had been inclusively involved in the environmental conservation and community service at various levels prior to official registration. These members have unified theirhuman resource to form this environment organization.
