Garowe, Somalia: SEDO Somalia joins the global community in commemorating World Humanitarian Day, observed annually on 19 August, to honor humanitarian workers who dedicate their lives to supporting people affected by crises and emergencies around the world.
World Humanitarian Day serves as a reminder of the courage, commitment, and sacrifice of first responders, volunteers, and humanitarian professionals who work in some of the most challenging environments to deliver life-saving assistance, restore dignity, and bring hope to vulnerable communities.
In Puntland and across Somalia, humanitarian actors continue to play a critical role in responding to recurring droughts, food insecurity, displacement, and other humanitarian challenges. Their efforts remain essential in reaching affected populations with timely assistance, strengthening resilience, and supporting recovery and recovery pathways for communities in need.
SEDO Somalia recognizes and appreciates the dedication of humanitarian workers who continue to serve communities despite significant operational challenges, often working in remote and high-risk environments to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most.
The organization reaffirms its commitment to the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence, and calls for continued solidarity and support for humanitarian workers globally. SEDO Somalia also emphasizes the importance of protecting aid workers and ensuring safe access to affected populations in line with international humanitarian law.
As the world marks this important day, SEDO Somalia pays tribute to all humanitarian personnel in Somalia and around the world who continue to stand with vulnerable communities and work tirelessly to build a more compassionate and resilient world.
