The Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF) programme, known locally as KAABE, is helping transform local food systems in Puntland by connecting smallholder farmers directly with schools.
Implemented by SEDO Somalia with support from WFP and funded by French Humanitarian Action, the project has trained 450 cooperative farmers in Good Agricultural Practices, food safety, and post-harvest loss management, while linking farmer cooperatives to 26 schools across Bari and Nugaal.
Through improved farming practices, market linkages, digital tools, and agricultural investments such as drip irrigation and farm fencing, KAABE is helping farmers increase production and access reliable markets while ensuring children receive safe, diverse, and nutritious food.
KAABE is more than a school feeding programme, it connects farmers, children, markets, and communities to build a stronger and more sustainable local food system.
