Puntland, Somalia: SEDO Somalia has launched a nutritional awareness campaign for primary schools in the Bari and Nugaal regions of Puntland State, targeting schools that benefit from the World Food Programme (WFP) school feeding program. The campaign aims to promote healthy eating habits among students and strengthen the link between local farmers and schools through the Home-Grown School Feeding Project.
Through this initiative, 14 farmer cooperatives across Puntland have been linked to 32 primary schools that are part of the WFP school feeding program, ensuring a steady supply of fresh vegetables and fruits to complement the meals provided to students. More than 5,000 primary school students across these regions are now benefiting from nutritious, locally sourced produce that supports their growth, learning, and overall well-being.
Beyond food delivery, SEDO Somalia has trained school principals, teachers, and kitchen staff on the importance of balanced diets and the nutritional value of fruits and vegetables. The campaign also emphasizes promoting a nutritional culture among students and their families, encouraging them to adopt healthier eating habits at home. By strengthening farm-to-school linkages and raising awareness, SEDO Somalia is helping to build a healthier, more food-secure future for children and communities across Puntland.
