Organizational Background
SEDO (Social and Environmental Development Organization) is a non-profit, non-political organization established in 2010 by Somali intellectuals committed to advancing social development and environmental sustainability. Headquartered in Bosaso, Puntland, SEDO addresses key challenges including food insecurity, environmental degradation, and the promotion of sustainable livelihoods.
The organization works to strengthen community resilience, improve public service delivery, and foster collaboration among government institutions, the private sector, and civil society. Through its programs, SEDO contributes to peacebuilding, recovery, and sustainable development across Somalia.
SEDO is currently implementing a project focused on strengthening the capacity of local farmers and improving nutrition outcomes in the Bari and Nugaal regions. To support this initiative, SEDO is seeking a qualified and experienced Nutrition Officer.
Position Summary
The Nutrition Officer will support the design, implementation, and monitoring of nutrition-related activities under the Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF) project, ensuring improved nutrition outcomes among target communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement nutrition interventions in line with project objectives
- Conduct nutrition assessments and support data collection activities
- Promote nutrition awareness and behavior change within communities
- Support school feeding and community-based nutrition programs
- Monitor and evaluate nutrition activities and outcomes
- Prepare timely and high-quality reports
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders, including health and education partners
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Food Science, or a related field
- Minimum of 2–4 years of relevant experience in nutrition programming or public health projects
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of community nutrition and food security programs
- Excellent report writing and communication skills
- Proficiency in computer applications (MS Office and related tools)
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in field-based and multicultural environments
Purpose of the Position
This position is part of the Home-Grown School Feeding (HGSF) project and is responsible for supporting the effective implementation of nutrition-related activities and ensuring improved dietary outcomes among beneficiaries.
